Lake Victoria Pure Water Project

Ministry Director:  Pastor Mumbya Samson

Mission Statement:

To use the provision of water purification in rural communities as a channel to promote health and to practically share the “Water of Life” in Christ.

While working as a nurse with Youth With A Mission in 2005, Karina became burdened by the need for pure water on Lingira Island and other Buvuma Islands. Thus began the Lake Victoria Pure Water Project. Prior to this project, citizens of the islands relied on the polluted water of Lake Victoria for drinking, bathing, cooking, washing, etc. Before the inception of SHIM in January of 2007, there were four community water purification systems established on three islands. As of December, 2007, there were eight total systems on seven islands.

Partnering with New Life International, which is based in the United States, the Lake Victoria Pure Water Project coordination team establishes and oversees the water purification projects. Local water project committees at each site are entrusted with the running of their individual system and contact is maintained with SHIM’s coordination team. The systems operate using battery and manual power to purify rain and lake water, which is brought in jericans by community members and purified at a small cost.

In addition to sharing the joy of pure, clean water, it is the purpose of the water project that everywhere we go we spread the good news that Jesus is the Living Water, the One who satisfies the thirst of the soul.
